Floor Care and Maintenance
Keep your Creekside floors looking their best for years to come with a few simple habits. From daily cleaning to handling spills, proper care helps preserve both the beauty and performance of your floors.
Getting Started: Post-Installation Care
After your new flooring is installed:
- Wait at least 24 hours before moving heavy furniture or appliances.
- Avoid wet cleaning for the first 5 days. During this period, only damp mop as needed — no soaking.
Preventive Maintenance
The best way to protect your floor is to stop damage before it starts. Here’s how:
- Use protective pads under furniture legs and heavy items.
- When moving furniture or appliances, use plywood or thick cardboard to prevent scratches or dents.
- Place mats at entryways to catch dirt and moisture — just make sure they don’t have latex or rubber backings, which can discolor floors.
- Avoid dragging heavy objects directly across the floor.
Routine Maintenance
Regular cleaning will help maintain the original finish and look of your floors.
- Sweep or vacuum daily to remove dust and debris. (Avoid vacuums with rotating brush bars.)
- Use a damp mop with a neutral pH vinyl floor cleaner for deeper cleaning.
- Never use abrasive tools or cleaners that can leave a film or dull the finish.
- Always pre-clean dry before any wet cleaning to avoid spreading grit.
If rinsing is needed, use clean water and dry the floor quickly with a fan or open windows to speed up air flow.
Spill & Spot Removal
Accidents happen — here’s how to handle them:
- Blot wet spills immediately with a clean white towel or paper towel.
- For sticky or dried spots, use gentle agitation with water, then blot dry.
- Avoid household detergents or abrasive cleaners that can leave residue.
- For tougher spots, use a bit of rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) on a clean white cloth.
